The cable is usually copper. Some jobs need optical fibre as well. We fit the cable the installation actually needs, alongside the power circuits. We will not invent a category of cable, a typical number of points, or a fibre-to-the-desk specialism on this page.

Data points in homes

In a house or flat the usual job is a data point where you actually use a computer, a phone, a printer or a television that needs a wired connection — or running those cables as part of a rewire or an extension so the rooms are not left on Wi-Fi by default.

A new run still has to be designed so the existing routes, boards and containment can take it. If the work is part of a wider domestic job, that sits on the domestic electrician page. We will not invent a typical number of points, a typical room layout, or a typical cost here. The quote depends on the rooms and the installation we are looking at.

Workplaces, cabinets and containment

In a shop, office or other workplace the same electricians run the data cabling, put in the points, and fit a communications cabinet and containment when the site needs them. That work is not a separate IT contractor.

Testing and certificates

When we have installed a new system, it is tested, and you should receive the certificates that go with that work — not only a verbal confirmation. We will not invent a tester brand, a test-result format, or a “network health check” product on this page. If you want existing cabling looked at, that is a quote for the installation in front of us.
