The number of CCTV installations Cheshire homes have outside might well increase after property owners hear how Metropolitan Police commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe believes that all homeowners should take advantage of this technology in order to protect their houses.
In an interview on LBC Radio, Mr Hogan Howe noted that advancements in software for facial recognition mean that stills from CCTV can now be compared in detail with any images taken of potential culprits after they’ve been arrested.
He observed: “Taking the tops of their heads is not that helpful for facial recognition which relies on the eyes and the configuration of the area around the nose and the mouth. So we’re trying to get people to, ideally, add another camera at face level.”
If you’ve already got these systems in place at home, why not head outside to have a look at how they’re positioned? If they’re too high up or at a funny angle, they may not be offering you quite as much protection against break-ins as you may have thought.
Consider bringing your cameras down the wall a little so that they can more effectively capture the faces of anyone trying to gain access to your property.
Of course, there are other security measures you can put in place to help protect you and your family. If you have a large entrance way, why not think about installing an automatic gate? Alternatively, you could opt for security lighting that is motion sensitive and comes on after night falls.
